Nature is a source of inspiration and a textbook
example of circularity. Due to climate change it is important to increase greenery in our living environment, especially in cities. It is the responsibility of the architect to maintain and improve the existing ecological context.
When solving design issues, we are inspired by nature, because biological systems offer us solutions that are intrinsically circular and holistic. Nature’s optimized structures, processes and functions allow us to develop innovative design solutions. Solutions in which a maximum result can be achieved with a minimum of effort, materials and installations. We design buildings that are so well and cleverly constructed in terms of climatology that there is little need of any correction with installations.
Do not only pay attention to what is less harmful for nature, but specifically look for ways to embrace nature. In other words find different methods to improve biodiversity and in turn contribute to reducing the impact of climate change, such as heat stress, heavier rainfalls and extreme floods.
We encourage using the ecological potential of the location to enrich the living environment and to connect future residents with nature and even educate the younger generation about nature.
The places we create are not only for people, but also other residents, such as birds, bats, butterflies and bees. To achieve this we like to team-up with landscape architects and ecologists during the development of our projects:
Thijs de Zeeuw - Natuuroptimist
Flux landscape architecture
Loos van Vliet - studio for urban design, landscape, architecture
Newgrounds - landscape architect
Ideally, when the building is in use the ecological and sustainable environment of the building needs to be monitored. This way we can have an overview of our energy consumption and to ensure the biotope of the building is developing according to what we have envisioned.
